Lauren Lazar Stern, MA,ATR-BC, LPC
I am a board certified art therapist and a licensed professional counselor. I received my Master’s degree in Creative Arts in Therapy in 1979 from the Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, As part of my graduate training, I studied psychoanalytic theory and technique at the Hampstead Child Therapy Clinic with Anna Freud in London, England.
Currently, I maintain an active private practice where I specialize in working with individuals suffering from eating disorders. I have lectured nationally on the use of creative arts in therapy with eating-disordered women, as well as on other aspects of the utilization of art and writing in therapeutic practice. I am a member of the American Art Therapy Association, the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, the National Eating Disorders Association, EMDRIA, and the Pittsburgh Education and Arts in Therapy Association. I have written a workbook, The Slender Trap, A Food and Body Workbook, using art therapy techniques that helps young women determine whether they have an eating disorder and how to seek appropriate steps for treatment.
