THE HEALING MEMORY PROJECT
What is in place after a client graduates from therapy? What exists to ensure that we’ll remember all the positive work done in sessions? This is what is at the heart of The Healing Memory Project, a collaboration between myself and digital artist Nancy Gershman of Art For Your Sake.
Gershman specializes in “prescriptive visualizations” that re-envision one’s past to create a more joyful outlook towards life. Drawing from narrative therapy, Gershman’s methodology begins with your photographs. She employs Photoshop to create the impeccable reality she refers to as “Healing Dreamscapes.” In these fine art photomontages, Gershman co-mingles and repurposes fragments of memory, individually creating a mythology that rebuilds your character and timeline with humor, irony and symbolism.
With symbols we reach the unconscious, the place where we truly begin to see our lives on a new cognitive plane. Whether The Healing Memory Project encourages us to imbue our lives with more spirituality, more religiosity or more optimism is up to us. But for clients who have a history of veering off course, The Healing Memory Project is an important safeguard. Think of the Healing Dreamscape as a snapshot of your progress and positive mindset, and a vision of dreams to come. A record of where you came from, where you are now and where you are going.
As you near completion of your work with me, you may wish to consider The Healing Memory Project.
